Emory Andrew Tate III, born on December 1, 1986, is a British and American social media personality, businessman, and former professional kickboxer. He began his kickboxing career in 2005 and achieved his first championship in 2009. Tate gained wider attention in 2016 when he appeared on the British reality show Big Brother, but was removed due to controversial comments he made on social media.
Tate gained popularity as an internet celebrity, promoting an "ultra-masculine, ultra-luxurious lifestyle," and offering paid courses and memberships through his website. However, his misogynistic commentary led to suspensions from several social media platforms.
On December 29, 2022, Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan were arrested in Romania along with two women. They are suspected of human trafficking and forming an organized crime group. Romanian authorities allege that the group coerced victims into creating paid pornography for social media. On March 31, 2023, all four individuals were placed under house arrest while the investigation continued. On June 20, they were officially charged with rape, human trafficking, and forming an organized crime group to sexually exploit women.
Tate was born in Washington, D.C. to a mixed-race background. His father, Emory Tate, was an African American chess international master, and his mother worked as a catering assistant. After his parents divorced, Tate and his younger brother Tristan were raised in Chicago, Illinois, and Goshen, Indiana. Later, their mother took them to England.
In his kickboxing career, Tate achieved several notable accomplishments, including winning multiple ISKA world titles in different weight divisions. He gained further attention through his participation in the reality show Big Brother, where he faced criticism for his comments on social media and was ultimately removed from the show.
